Beautiful Sarah
You may be my wife
But please tell Pharaoh you are my sister

Beautiful Sarah
I hate to lose you
But I fear for my life

Beautiful Sarah

I thought to myself on Sunday, “Sarah (Sarai) must have been a really beautiful woman!”

Pastor Cara was preaching and had made a timeline and it showed her age at different stages of her journey through the world with Abram.

The timeline shows her leaving Abram’s family at 65 and shortly into the couple’s journey we are told of a famine in the land.

Abram and Sarai take off and head into Egypt.

Genesis 12:11-13:
11 As he was about to enter Egypt, he said to his wife Sarai, “I know what a beautiful woman you are. 12 When the Egyptians see you, they will say, ‘This is his wife.’ Then they will kill me but will let you live. 13 Say you are my sister, so that I will be treated well for your sake and my life will be spared because of you.”

We see in verse 14 and 15 that the Egyptians found Sarai very beautiful and the Pharaoh takes her into his household.

I thought, “65, beautiful, wa, she must be really beautiful!”

Or maybe there were different standards for beauty as you can see in the picture of the engraving at the top of the post.

Or maybe the desert was a very lonely place, see cartoon:

Luke 1:4

13.10.07

“that you may have certainty concerning the things you have been taught.” – Luke 1:4

We should have certainty in the things of God that we’ve been taught, not a wavering wheat stalk being blown in the wind but a rock solid confidence in the character, attributes and things of God!

Sometimes we as believers aren’t sure when we are questioned by unbelievers about our faith and about our God. It is a shame to not know about and not know the God we say we worship.

We go to church but we don’t know God, isn’t that a shame?

In v3, Luke writes this account for Theophilus in order that he may be certain, having a rock solid confidence in things that he has been taught.

One of the reasons the Bible was written is this, that “you may have certainty concerning the things you have been taught.”

Amen.

Blogging through Ephesians Pt. 3

22.08.07

My thoughts on Ephesians 1:7-9

“In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, which he lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insight making known to us the mystery of his will, according to his purpose, which he set forth in Christ…”

This is why God’s grace is enough, He is rich in grace! You see, he lavishes it on the beloved yet it is a lavishing of wisdom and insight! He does not lavish wastefully or in a frivolous manner, He does it all in accordance to His plans!

I just found it wonderful that he lavishes with wisdom. Nothing happens by accident with our God, look at the words, “according to his purpose”. God is a God with a plan, and He will fulfill it!

Blogging through Ephesians Pt. 2

16.08.07

In today’s reading, these verses and a thought popped out to me. Let me first show you the verses and then my thoughts.

Ephesians 1:19-20

19 and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might 20 that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places,

We frequently hear that the Spirit by which God raised Christ is the same Spirit that is living in us, and I still do not know where that comes from… Ok I did a search, I now know that it comes from Romans 8:11.

You see my point is this, a lot of times we hear things from the pulpit and yet we do not know where in the Bible we can find that statement, and we just accept it for what it is, usually because it is spoken by someone of authority.

But my heart is especially quickened when I read things from the Word and discover for myself what the Word actually says!

And in the two verses, God’s power is just amazing. If you don’t understand what I am saying, that’s ok, because I lost myself as well. Cheers.

Blogging through Ephesians Pt. 1

15.08.07

Taking the advice of Fred Sanders, (see this post), I will be reading Ephesians over and over again until God’s Word sinks into me!

I will attempt to keep a we-blog of my reading.

In today’s reading we have Ephesians 1:2,

“Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.”

O how we need the grace and peace of God in our lives! In my heart I am saying, “Yes God, yes God I need your grace and peace!”

8x–edit–8x

The above thoughts were actually thoughts I had after the 2nd reading. After the first reading I could already see the benefit of reading through a book in one sitting. I could see the book pan out as a letter that had a head, body and it’s ending. It was complete in and of itself. I just love the Word of God!
