Some trivia
27.03.07Yesterday, something interesting happened in my professional communication class, we had to pick these cards randomly, and on these cards was a random word. My word was death.
What we had to do with these words was to prepare a two minute speech and present it to the class, while everyone picked out the features of the speech. Mine went surprisingly well though.
I did some research and found out that:
1) 2500 left-handed people die each year by using products for right-handed people.
2) 3 people get killed by coconuts each year.
3) 7 people get killed by 9v batteries each year.
4) 10 people get killed by vending machines each year.
I do not have data, and you should not quote me on this! It’s damn sad to be killed by those things I just mentioned.
Better Than Best Friends
24.03.07Heck it beats the girls’ BFFs any time. Mine is BTBF!
不在乎天长地久,只在乎曾经拥有。 Not!
Do you know who is my better than best friend, friend (BTFBFF) He is Joey Tan, and I thank God for Him!
I was feeling very very sian yesterday and he still made me call him at 1:45AM! And I did. And I don’t regret calling him because he is my BTBFF. More than that he made me laugh a whole lot, at my expense, meaning?
He suan-ed me left, right, centre (as almost always) but I took it and laughed about it. Let me tell you, this is how you tell if someone is very close to me, try suan-ing me and see how I react.
There my secret is out. People I can think of who can suan me and still make me happy are, Jenn, Maisie, Toh, Van and Jeanie… There are two more who don’t suan me, Daniel and Sharon, but if they did I’d laugh too!
Now I feel very thick-skinned saying this but it’s sorta like a disclaimer, if you suan me and I don’t laugh with you it doesn’t mean I don’t like you, it could mean that we are not close enough, but friendships take time to build.
Believe me Joey and Liang’s friendship was not built overnight, nor was it phileo at first sight. It was stupid at times, damn childish (ask me I tell you why) at other times, but we made it bro, distance can’t dim my phileo for you.
Thanks for the phone call, although you mightn’t have meant for it to achieve that effect? Thanks! I woke up at 12nn today, hahaha.

The journey of a sad sad heart
21.03.07my heart sinks beneath the sheets
sliding into the mattress
landing on dust and wood
there it lays
waiting for someone to wake it up
give it some life
and turn it into flesh
break this stone
unfold the heart within
one that pumps and flow from the blood
where there will be no more heart failures
no more pain
How does God’s love remain with us?
20.03.07Create in me a clean heart, O God,
and renew a right spirit within me.
Cast me not away from Thy presence, O Lord
and take not Thy Holy Spirit from me.
Restore unto me the joy of Thy salvation,
and renew a right spirit within me. – Create in Me a Clean Heart by Keith Green
I was thinking about this song with relation to Romans 8:38-39,
38 For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
If nothing, absolutely nothing can separate us from God’s love, do we need to sing this song? Yes I notice that the song is talking about not taking away God’s spirit from us and it is also based on Psalm 51.
I also know that scripture cannot be broken. Am I taking both verses out of context?
ps: I didn’t know that the song was written by Keith Green!
God is the Gospel
15.03.07This phrase was coined by John Piper I think. When I first read it, I was wondering that doesn’t sound biblical, hey?
Then I decided to download the free e-book, and I am only at the beginning and I’m only starting to get a feel of what Pastor John Piper is trying to say.
I think Paul sums it up well in a very familiar verse:
“I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ” (Philippians 3:8).
You see, Pastor Piper’s assertion is that God is the ultimate gift of the Gospel, he is the giver and the gift, the ultimate gift, without him all gifts are nothing.
Pastor Piper also asked a question, “WOULD YOU BE HAPPY IN HEAVEN IF CHRIST
WERE NOT THERE?”. (Reminds me of Disciple’s My Hell)
If you could have heaven, with no sickness, and with all the
friends you ever had on earth, and all the food you ever liked, and
all the leisure activities you ever enjoyed, and all the natural beauties
you ever saw, all the physical pleasures you ever tasted, and no
human conflict or any natural disasters, could you be satisfied with
heaven, if Christ were not there? – Piper, pg. 15, God is the Gospel
And I’ve been thinking about it, I do not think my answer will be a resounding “no”. Now why is that a problem? Because the truth about heaven is that it is all about God in heaven. (I can’t believe I didn’t get it)
But alas, how little fit for heaven are many who talk of ‘going to
heaven’ when they die, while they manifestly have no saving faith, and
no real acquaintance with Christ. You give Christ no honor here. You
have no communion with Him. You do not love Him. Alas! what
could you do in heaven? It would be no place for you. Its joys would
be no joys for you. Its happiness would be a happiness into which you
could not enter. Its employments would be a weariness and burden to
your heart. Oh, repent and change before it be too late! – J. C. Ryle quoted in pg. 16 of God is the Gospel
O I do want to repent Lord! If you feel the same way, knowing in your heart of hearts that God is not your ultimate joy, I think it’ll be a good idea to download the book and read it!
There are even study resources available for free! So please take advantage of this ok?
And when I go there
I go there with you
It’s all I can do – U2, Where the streets have no name
Waves
08.03.07Standing before the mirror in the library’s toilet after washing my hands, I was styling my hair and I realised I liked that wavy look, then I was reminded of waves.
“Waves, hahahahaha.”
I don’t remember how she made fun of me but I will always remember the term Jeanie gave for my long hairdo, she called them waves, and she usually followed it with a laugh.
I will remember how she always offers to pray for me when she knows that I’m down, she encouraged me with Psalm 37:4, and how she was a pillar when I was in BMT .) Thanks sis.
Here’s a picture of us before I enlisted, probably sometime in July of 2004.

Fab Food & Fab Friends; A night at Tiger Lils
02.03.07Thursday evening was a fun-filled evening! A bunch of us headed to this upmarket place for dinner, we went to Tiger Lils! It is a restaurant/bar bursting with a fusion of Eastern decor.
I found it a little weird because there was a big clash of cultures, Japanese, Chinese, Thai, Indonesian, like everything lah. Almost. Not. But I guess they pulled it off pretty well!

That is the exterior of Tiger Lils, check out the lanterns!

That’s the bar, complete with alcoholic happy buddha and angkorwatish lookalikes. Man, he looks really happy surrounded by all those bottles. Hehe.

And here is a closer look at the lanterns of many shapes and sizes!
Anything remotely Eastern made it in, haha. But it’s really a colourful burst of asian flavour. Nice.
We were all relatively on time, after circling a good area, 4 times, for parking, no less. The menu that day was its first day at “work” and so we had the honour of trying out the new food.

Theodora and Sharolyn (on her right) plus Sean (not in picture) had some teppanyaki beef thing which was actually a beef steak cooked medium rare with rice. I don’t think they enjoyed it so much, someone almost barfed, hehe.

Here’s my dish, a chicken caramel thingie, it was good! The colours are bad in the photograph, but it was good! The beautiful aromas of the grill were infused into the chicken. Mmmm!

A New Chapter
01.03.07After many blogs and blog servers, I have moved.
I had been contemplating a move away from Blogger a long time, don’t ask me why, I don’t know. I almost paid for a paid account at Live Journal then somebody or something reminded me that there is this WordPress thing which Jon uses!
Anyway I chose WordPress because it boasts a whole range of features and it is idiot-proof! Not that I’m a tech idiot, just damn lazy.
And most importantly it looks stunning! Ooh barracuda!
Hopefully it’s as seamless and stable as it boasts to be, like my Mac!
So welcome to my page, I hope you stay, I hope I update.
